Builder's notes:

• New engine, new propeller. We went through several props for two engines, and several modifications of those propellers (by the manufacturer - not an operation I would undertake myself), trying to arrive at the "book" static RPM. We didn't make the book value, but we got as good - according to an old hand on the field - as we could expect from a wood propeller. The final configuration for the propeller on this Continental C85 is 68-inch length and 41-inch pitch.

• After the prop bolts are torqued, but before twisting any safety wire through the drilled bolt heads, the propeller must be "tracked" (check Tony Bingelis' books for the procedure). This ensures that the propeller tips swing in the same plane (within 1/16th inch tolerance) for proper balance when turning. If the tips are out of tolerance, try loosening and re-torqueing the bolts. Thin shims may be required between the crushability and the prop hub to get the blades to track correctly.
