I'm an ornithologist interested in studying the factors that influence survival in birds during migration and the non-breeding season. I'm currently the project leader for Project FeederWatch at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.  Project FeederWatch is a long-term study of the abundance and distribution of birds in winter in the United States and Canada.

Cornell's Shoals Marine Lab on Appledore Island, Maine is a remarkable place to learn about birds. Learn about my field ornithology course.

In addition to my work at Cornell, I am also Director of Research and Vice President of Braddock Bay Bird Observatory (BBBO). The Observatory is located on the south shore of Lake Ontario near Rochester, New York, and is one of the premiere locations in North America to study songbirds during migration stopover periods. My dissertation was largely based on data gathered at BBBO. Approximately 10,000 birds of 110 species are banded at BBBO during spring and fall migration annually. Contact me if you are interested in conducting research at BBBO, or would like us to assist in collecting data for your research.
