Nighthawk is an M.S./Ph.D. student in the Department of Natural Resources at Cornell University. His research focuses on individuals' perceptions of risk with respect to wildlife-associated diseases. He studys how the citizenry's conceptions of negative human wildlife interactions can and should affect management decisions made by federal, state, and regional management agencies. Nighthawk's primary advisor is Professor Dan Decker, who has conducted extensive research on human-wildlife interactions during his 30+ years at Cornell University. Professor Rich Stedman, an expert in some of the sociological aspects of natural resources, is the second member of Nighthawk's M.S. Committee.
