WELCOME MESSAGE

In January 2004 I came to the Lab of Ornithology to open the Adelson Library to the public. With 20 years of experience as a library assistant and a fresh Master's Degree in Library Science from the University at Buffalo I was well prepared for the task ahead.

I’ve held positions in almost every area of library work. However, I am not a specialist in all and rely on specialists to keep me informed. I enjoy personal and professional development. I enjoyed my work creating original serial catalog records. I loved my work as the reserves coordinator. I enjoy my work as an administrator, interacting with potential and actual donors, members, and staff, and creating learning opportunities for everyone under my academic care.

At Cornell University Library I am a member of the Council of Librarians, I regularly attend theAccess Services open forums and Reference and Outreach open forums. At the Cornell Lab of Ornithology I regularly attend Education Department meetings.

While I am extremely dedicated to my job and career, I am active in the greater Tompkins County community. I represent the Village and Town of Groton on the Tompkins County Environmental Management Council. I have been active in Boy Scouts and am currently an Assistant Girl Scout Leader. I participate in community activities. I am a member of the Lab of Ornithology Safety Committee and was a member of the Ithaca College Safety Committee and Staff Council. I am professionally active as well.

I am the editor for the Upstate New York Special Libraries Association Bulletin and am the Ithaca local area coordinator. I am planning the USNYSLA Spring Conference at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. I’ve enjoyed being a member of the American Library Associations’ new member round table.  I recently joined ACRL. In the past I was active in the New York Library Association and the New York State Library Assistants' Association and am currently the coordinator and owner of the NYSLAA list. I believe that the next generation of professional library leaders will come from within the ranks of our libraries.

Contact me if you would like assistance with your research. I can provide one-on-one instruction and counseling sessions to faculty, staff, students, Lab visitors and member at a distance involved in research projects, I can provide group instruction in the skills necessary for locating, assessing, and using information effectively and instruction in advanced library research skills.
