Course description: This independent study course is for students interested in exploring the issues of professional practice as they exist in a culture different from that of the students' citizenship. It is designed primarily for architecture students with non-US citizenship interested in summer internships in the US, i.e., interested in curricular practical training.
For summer training, complete forms during prior Spring term; actual enrollment is for Fall term immediately after summer internship.

STEP 1: Go to the ISSO site, read all their information on CPT, and download appropriate forms. |

STEP 2: To enroll in Independent Study for curricular practical training, please fill out the Independent Study Request Form (available in the architecture department office). If you are working with Prof. Ochshorn, the form should incoprporate the following information: |
- Request 1 credit in ARCH 5203 Curricular Practical Training
S/U Grade for the Fall semester 20xx. Note that this is the Fall term immediately after your summer internship, but also note that all paperwork must be completed during the Spring semester before the internship begins.
Description of Study and Explanation of Goals:
This independent study will allow me to explore the issues of professional practice as it exists in a culture different from that of my citizenship.
Give a brief preliminary list of resources and references:
I will be required to read a book dealing with the issue of professional practice. Possible texts include [list 1-3 examples here, final choice can be determined later]:

What will be produced as a result of this study?
5-10 page paper discussing the chosen text in relation to the experience of the summer intership.
Describe the supervision expected:
Initial meeting to discuss choice of text; final meeting to discuss ideas for paper is optional.
Instructor can sign this form.
Important note: Paper is due and must be turned in prior to the start of the Fall term; i.e., immediately after the internship is completed. |

STEP 3: Turn in an add-drop form for the course, also available from the architecture department office (ARCH 523 1 credit, Fall 20xx, S/U). Instructor can initial the course being added; your advisor also needs to sign the form. |

You will need to complete appropriate forms and register for ARCH 523 during the Spring term preceding each internship, even though the course is officially "taught" during the fall term after the summer internship.
You may take the course more than once, but only the first credit hour earned will count towards graduation requirements.
