BALLROOM INTENSIVE is a social dance class - it is not a competition-oriented. No previous dance experience is necessary. The class is plenty of fun, although compared to the Sunday and Wednesday BALLROOM SURVEY sections, it is more focused, and gets a deeper look into the most popular dance styles. Spring 2008 social dance topics:
Hustle, American Tango, Cha Cha.

The MONDAY section also has an enrollment limit of 25 couples. There is a more stringent attendance commitment than for the other two sections - one cut, one makeup, with rare exceptions. Students from WED and SUN may not makeup by attending BALLROM INTENSIVE, again with the rare exceptions.
This will enable us to move faster, and get deeper, i.e. less total re-teaching of topics for those who missed the previous class!

The BALLROOM INTENSIVE section will tend to attract students who are doing some practicing between classes. Don't get scared - there are no tests. This is simply a section for students who want more than a drop-in survey. It is quite a lot of fun! But it is not for those with a casual committment to paying attention in class. We are non-judgemental, entertaining, amusing instructors. We encourage questions, and give plenty of individual attention.

In addition to innovative teaching methods, a unique aspect of our approach is that we continually revisit specific ways that both lady and fellow can look good & feel good on the dance floor. You are DANCERS, not just leader & follower! And there is lots more to each dance style than just different step patterns. There is drama, expression, lyricism, and the emotional connection to both your partner and the music.

Over 2/3 of our students take PE140 non-credit. A number of students take the course more than once! Student surveys show that the vast majority of our students take the course based solely on word-of-mouth recommendations of former students.

Shoes: bring clean leather sole shoes, or simply dance in your socks. The more dedicated students will bring dance shoes or dance sneakers to class. High heels with non-metal tips are fine, but no thin-spike heels for ladies, sorry they ruin the floor.
Sneakers are OK; you just won't be able to pivot or spin too well.
