Dr. Lori Neighbors is currently an Assistant Professor of Nutrition in the
Department
of Human Movement Sciences at the University
of Wisconsin Milwaukee. She is fascinated with how individuals of all
ages interpret and manage different aspects of their body size.
A little more about Dr. Neighbors...
She grew up in Chicago, Illinois (yes the city, not the suburbs) and was
involved in many weight -oriented
sports (e.g., gymnastics, swimming, running). During her youth, she also
consumed great quantities of pop and potato chips. She became interested
in the field of nutrition as a college undergraduate at Illinois
State University and transferred to the University
of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) to gain research experience.
She completed her B.S. and M.S. in Human Nutrition at UIUC and went on
to complete her doctoral training at Cornell
University in the Division
of Nutritional Sciences. Her primary concentration was in Community
Nutrition with minor concentrations in Psychology and Policy Analysis
and Management. Under the advising of Dr's. Jeffery
Sobal, Kara
Joyner, Jere
Haas, and David
Dunning, she successfully defended her doctoral dissertation in 2007.
She has also interned at the Cooper
Institute for Aerobics Research and is a registered
dietitian.
