Here are some things you can do to “get out of the house” and take advantage of the environment around youin a earth-friendly way!
Try an activity like scuba diving, where you can get really close to nature
- Alternatively, visit aquariums, nature centers, science centers, or museums to learn more and get great hands on experience.
Take advantage of the ecology of your area and go exploring. Some cool places to visit include:
o      The beach
- Go for walks
- Search through tide pools
- Walk your dog
o      Rock formations
o      Hiking in the woods
- Climb trees
- Go hiking
- Visit maple sugar factories
- Collect pinecones and make birdfeeders out of peanut butter and birdseed
o      Swimming in waterfalls, lakes, and the ocean
o      Places where two environments meet
- Salt marshes.  The area behind Chapin Beach in Massachusetts is an excellent example of this unique ecosystem.
  - Costal Cities.  Honolulu, Hawaii is an example in a tropic area.  Rye, New Hampshire is another different example
o      Go to a Field or Plains
- Collect wildflowers to decorate your home
- Go searching under old logs to look for salamanders and other insects.  Make a “bug jar” in a glass aquarium and be sure to replace water and be sure to replace water and plants on a timely schedule. Also, be sure the aquarium is open to air.
o      Buy praying mantis egg sacks or butterfly cocoons to release in your garden once they mature. This is a much more environmentally friendly way of controlling pests and saves money on dangerous chemicals.
o      Walk around a local college campus.  Many schools have trails through woods or complex paths through cities.
