One of my all time favorite guitarists, the mighty Ace Frehley, spills the beans about why he's chosen to opt out of the seemingly never-ending "farewell" Kiss tour. Starting on 8/2/03, Kiss & Aerosmith will be touring as co-headliners & Frehley wants no part of a tour co-headlining with a band that used to open for them in the '70s. I can see his point. Gene Simmons & Paul Stanley have always claimed they do everything "for the fans," & while that is true to a point, it'd be nice for once if they'd just come out & say "We're doing it for the money." Kiss has been & always will be one of my favorite bands, without a doubt. It's just a bummer to watch them continually striving to new heights in ways they can lose creditability from long-time fans. Of all the concerts & club shows I've been to in the last roughly 24 years, one of the highlights was seeing all four of the original members of Kiss, with full make-up & amazing stageshow, when they headlined 4 consecutive sold-out shows at Madison Square Garden in July of '96. As much as I love them, they've just never really known when to call it quits.

If you're a local in Ithaca, check out Woodman Milkman Doctor. They're an original band fronted by our friend Aaron Raitiere. Their style is an interesting mix of bluegrass, blues & straight ahead rock. They've been playing around the area as a band since this past spring. Go see them, you won't regret it.

We have tickets for both the Warped Tour on 8/7/03 & The Dead with Bob Dylan on 8/8/03 at Darien Lake. It worked out pretty good that the shows were scheduled on back to back nights. We got a hotel room on site, so it'll be two days of continuous music. We're looking forward to it, reviews to come...

You should check out the new CD by Chemystry Set. My friend Dickie Odgen plays drums on it & also produced the entire album. Chemystry Set sounds to me like a blend of 90s jam bands combined with a mix of progressive, jazz & even a Middle Eastern influence as well. The musicians are amazing & the arrangements are really great. I was very impressed by the production value of the CD, even more so due to the fact that I know the producer. Chemystry Set is based out of the Oakland-San Francisco area. Kathryn got the chance to catch them at their CD release party at the end of June. You can purchase their CD off their web site, & I think you should go there right now & BUY IT.

Went to see AFI at the Water Street Music Hall in Rochester, NY on 7/7. What a truly amazing show. It was cool to see a band in a club as opposed to an arena for a change. The band was fantastic & really worked hard to put on an intense show. The opening bands were The Static Age & The Explosion. We enjoyed all 3 bands, but AFI was definitely the best. They're also headlining some dates on this summer's Warped Tour, so check 'em out if you get the chance.
