Score one for little guys - Nike apologized for blatantly ripping off Ian MacKaye & Dischord Records & have removed the ad that they used without permission (see below). David - 1, Goliath - 0.

Great show this past weekend!! Openers The Black Crowes were absolutely outstanding. They played a great & varied set, that included in several smokin' jams & also covers of The Band's "Don't Do It" & Little Feat's "Willin'." Their version of "Thorn in my Pride" was probably my favorite tune of the night, with "Nebaknezer" right behind it. This was the third time I've seen the Crowes & I'd have to say it was the best of all of them. For an opener, they played a fairly long set, about 70 minutes or so. My good friend Roz who came with us who is a diehard Crowes fan said that in his opinion, it was a set list more for fans of the band, as opposed to a set that was put together to try & win over any new fans who weren't familiar with the band. I give them a lot of credit for doing that. They were fantastic!!
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers was the headline act & was also great! His band was super tight & they had the place rockin' for the first part of his set. He played one new song, & a few that I hadn't expected (including "Wildflowers," "Don't Come Around Here No More," & "You Wreck Me") but the vast majority of the set was some genuine powerhouse rock. Petty seemed to rely quite a bit on material from his solo albums, as opposed to music he'd recorded with the Heartbreakers. Just the same, both he & his band were great & I really enjoyed it. If this tour is coming near you, make a point to check it out.

Nike vs. Ian MacKaye & Dischord Records. Looks like Nike thought they could rip off artwork from a Minor Threat album to use for an ad (see below to compare for yourself). Whether you want to consider it an homage or even a parody, explicit permission was not requested, & even if it had been, I can pretty much guarantee you that MacKaye would have turned them down flat. Who does Nike think they're messing around with here? Someone didn't do their homework. I hope Nike gets sued for millions & loses. You go Ian, FIGHT THE POWER!

I absolutely LOVE the Volkswagen commercial that has the young couple dancing & jumping up & down in their apartment while they listen to "Molly's Chambers" by Kings of Leon. Go here to see the commercial & then click on the thumbnail called "Independence Day." Both the song & the commercial rock.

I updated the Snakeoil Salesmen page. If you open it with Internet Explorer as your web browser, you can now hear the breakout single "(It's All So) Wonderful" playing in the background. Unfortunately, it won't work with a non-Microsoft browser. Check it out, the tune rocks.

Going to see Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers with the Black Crowes as the support act on Saturday 6/25 at Darien Lake. Going with Kat & our good friends Bob & Sandra (Bob aka Bob Rozwod aka Roz aka guitarist for RASH). Should be an awesome show. Will post a review next week.

Got the new Foo Fighters double CD. I'm a HUGE Dave Grohl fan, so naturally I'm digging it. The first disc is all upbeat rockin' tunes, while the second disc is all mellow, laid back kind of stuff. First disc jams without letting up, no downers at all, which I really like. The second disc is fairly mellow & while the songs are good, I imagine I probably won't be listening to it quite as much. Just the same - BUY THIS ALBUM.

Check out this picture of a very twisted looking Alice in Wonderland that Kat sent me. Yikes! See below for the story on why Alice is so goth-looking these days. A movie is supposed to be being made based on it. Sounds awesome!

"
"The story is after her first adventure in Wonderland, a fire struck Alice's house – killing her entire family and leaving her as the sole survivor. This trauma drove Alice a little insane and she was thrown into a mental institution where she lived in a padded room. One day, the White Rabbit reappeared, and Alice once again followed him down the rabbit hole and into Wonderland to find things not as they used to be. Wonderland changed from a bright and happy land into a dark, twisted, and evil version of its former self. Alice's mission is to once again track down the Queen of Hearts and find out exactly what has caused Wonderland to become as dark as her own soul."

"The west is the best..." Truer words have never been spoken, even by the regularly & often highly intoxicated Jim Morrison himself. And why am I quoting The Lizard King himself? Because we're headed back to the best place in the world, San Francisco, once again next month, that's why!!! Cannot wait!!
Here's a view of the Golden Gate Bridge from the San Francisco bay.

Got this pic from my SOS guitar player & thought it was pretty funny. It's the ultimate effects pedal!

I'M BACK after an extended 8 month hiatus!! Ran into a software issue - more specifically, the web publishing software I'd been using was no longer available on my PC, but due to the kindness of a friend, that has been rectified. I will be doing my best to get back into the swing of posting (ir)regularly once again. Did anyone even notice I was gone? :)
