I've read some great books in the last few months since I've posted anything new. Here they are in no particular order, with a review of each book linked to the title:: "Five Against One," a biography of Pearl Jam. While I enjoyed the book, I really have to agree with the review I linked to. All the background on Pearl Jam was great, but it didn't really paint the band or Eddie Vedder in a good light at all. Next, "Heavier Than Heaven," a biography of Kurt Cobain. A great book, loaded with tons of details on Kurt's life that led to Nirvana & superstardom, whether he'd really intended for it to be that way or not. If you're a fan of the band, this is a must-read. Next, "Fargo Rock City," by Chuck Klosterman. I cannot say enough good things about this book. It's funny, & it's a dead-on accurate portrayal of the 80s glam rock metal scene, as depicted through the eyes of a fan. Klosterman is an unabashed fan of the glam metal genre, & pulls no punches in what he says. Next, "Kiss & Make Up," Gene Simmons' (of Kiss fame) autobiography. As much as I enjoyed this book (I'm an unapologetic Kiss nut, & have been since I was 10 years old), I have to say that I thought Gene wimped out. I've read enough on Kiss to know a lot of what has gone on behind the scenes of one of my favorite bands, & his version of HIS story was pretty tame, I must admit. Still, if you're a fan of the band, it's worth a read.

There's a new artist I'm interested in - Andrew WK. I caught the video for the first single off his album (entitled "I Get Wet" due out on 3/26) called "Party Hard." What a great tune! What REALLY caught my attention, was this was just a bunch of long-haired guys running around in t-shirts & jeans, playing a heavy metal song about partying! It wasn't some freak with multiple piercings, going on & on, whining about his abusive childhood, or whatever inner-demons are tormenting him. This was just good, fun, stupid, heavy music. And you know what? It's EXACTLY what's been missing in the music scene for, well, for YEARS now!! Here's a pretty good review that gives you an idea of what I'm talking about. As dumb as this music might be, it's a breath of fresh air to me. I hope it becomes a multi-platinum seller.

So, again, where the HELL have I been for the last few months? My work & personal life have been busier than usual, & honestly, I just let the whole Soapbox thing slide since November 01. Has anyone even noticed? Odds are no. In any case, I will be getting back to regular posting soon.
