Friends of CHS '83 Scholarship Details Over the past few years, a few of us from the CHS Class of 1983 have been looking for a way to affirm our association with Cortland, and to convey our appreciation for the city that gave us so much. No matter where we currently live, or how often we get to visit Cortland, we feel a strong connection to the Seven Valleys and a need to give back to the community. With that thought in mind, we have endowed a scholarship fund that will help graduating CHS students for years to come. As stewards of the fund, we will disperse annual awards, solicit new donations, and grow the fund to self-sustaining status. We are in the process of obtaining 501c3 non-profit status. The first distribution of the award will occur in June 2003, coinciding with our 20th High School Graduation Anniversary. Selection will be based upon recommendations, transcripts, and short essays. Although we are all aware that Cortland does not have great wealth, it is striking to note that with this limited effort, and with your help, we should quickly become the largest annual scholarship fund at Cortland High School. Through group strength, we will be able to give real support to the dreams of some of those following us through CHS. So, we enlist you to join our vision, give back to the Cortland community, and make a small annual donation to the fund. In the early summer, we will be publishing a small newsletter to give updates on the fund, solicit feedback, and to announce the winner of the award. All donations are deeply appreciated.
