Title: End of the Infatuation Medium: Scratchboard Size: 9"X2" Comments: This is the third piece in my scratchboard illustration series based on the novel, A Dream of Red Mansions. The subject of this piece is the main character Lin Taiyu. The image captures the moment where she burns her love poems, delcaring an end to her love for a man whom she beleives will never come back to her. In the story, the man does return, only to marry someone else as Taiyu dies of grief. Unlike traditional illustration that portray Taiyu as a weakling, weakened by illness as she tosses the papers, this image captures a sense of internal strength.
