Creating A Webpage

The instructions and guidelines presented here
are meant to get you started with creating simple web pages. Follow the
steps below to create a personalized home page. For more information on
creating web pages, see Computing at Cornell's
Creating
Web Pages page.
- This step assumes that you chose the option to have a
basic personal web page created during the registration process; if
you didn't select this option, go on to the next step.
Download the file called index.html from the CU People
system. To download your file, use FTP (File Transfer Protocol).
Information about using FTP can be found at
Computing at Cornell: File Transfer.
You will need our Server Information.
- Open the index.html file with an HTML or web editor, see
Computing at Cornell:
Creating A Webpage for more on HTML Editors. If
you did not have an index.html file created for you, start
your editor, then choose "New" from the File menu, this will create a blank page
that you can use to develop your webpage.
- Now that your web page file is open, you can type in text about yourself.
Try entering a few lines of descriptive information, or talk about what
you like to do. Don't worry about images for now.
Choose "Save" from the File menu to save your changes to your computer, make sure it is saved as
index.html when you save it.
- Once your page is completed to your satisfaction, follow the instructions for
Uploading your Webpage.
- See our Publish Page for a list of more features, such as images, you can add to your page.
